Food and Health Fact #53: Covid-19 mortality rates and national overweight prevalence

In countries where more than half of the population is overweight, mortality rates from Covid-19 have been nearly 15 times higher than in countries where less than half the population is overweight, according to a report published last week by the World Obesity Federation. The report points out that, “Of the 2.5 million COVID-19 deaths reported by the end of February 2021, 2.2 million were in countries where more than half the population is classified as overweight.”
