Obesity rates have been rising in countries throughout the world in recent decades – developing countries in particular, according to the World Obesity Federation. Among men, the largest compound annual increases from 1995-2016 were in Lao (9.5%), Vietnam (9.5%), Indonesia (8.8%), Maldives (8.4%), Timor-Leste (8%), China (7.9%), and Thailand (7.7%). The largest increases among women during this period were in Vietnam (6.9%), Lao (6.6%), Burkina Faso (6.1%), Rwanda (6.1%), Nepal (6%), and Timor-Leste (6%).
