A study published in Pediatric Obesity in 2014 analyzed more than three billion food and beverage ads, for 2,700 products, appearing on children-centered websites. The authors found that just 20 percent of the products in the ads (and 3 percent of the cereals) met federal guidelines for added sugar (no more than 13 grams per serving). Fewer than 0.1 percent of ads for prepared foods and meals met all the guidelines for sodium, saturated fat, trans fat, and added sugar.
