The obesity rate among U.S. children ages 2-19 rose from 5.5 percent in 1975 to 21.4 percent in 2016 – the highest rate in the world, according to a 2019 OECD report. Among the nations of the European Union, child obesity increased from 1.9 percent to 9.7 percent during the same period.
