Food and Health Fact #16: Americans' low levels of fiber intake

An estimated 95 percent of Americans do not meet the recommended daily intake of fiber, which spans from 19 grams for children to 38 grams for males between the ages of 14 and 50, according to the most recent USDA data. (The average daily dietary fiber intake among American adults is about 16 grams.) Foods high in fiber include beans, peas, quinoa, and raspberries. Foods with no fiber include red meat, chicken, fish, eggs, and cheese.
