What are the most nutrient-rich foods? In 2014, the CDC published a study examining 41 so-called “powerhouse” foods that provide 10 percent or more of the daily value of 17 important nutrients (potassium, fiber, protein, calcium, iron, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, folate, zinc, and vitamins A, B6, B12, C, D, E, and K). Watercress came out on top with a score of 100, while chard was the top green leaf (89.3), red pepper the top among vegetables (41.3), lemon the top in citrus (18.7), and strawberry the top berry (17.6). Notwithstanding the differences among the foods, all of those studied confer robust health benefits.
